Motorcycle Therapy

In the early 70's I read a book called "Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig . It was a great read using a cross country motorcycle trip and the "now" of the experience.

A few years after it was published, I was hitchhiking from Sioux Falls South Dakota to Deadwood South Dakota and was picked up by a group of young hippies in a VW micro bus. The Driver was the Authors Son.

I hope to further that trip and continue down that idea by adding my own theory.

Motorcycle Therapy is, of course, being totally in the now.

The vibrations of the engine and the road are pleasant stimulation to the nervous system and mind. The back and lower legs receive a massage. The smells are intense and everything is in HD, including hearing. The best of all for me is the feeling of freedom. It's the closest earthbound way I've found to achieve momentary relief from my pain and worries.

Big long cruises aren't for me anymore. My back lets me know when it's time to turn around and head home. I can do around a 2 hr. ride.

Lucy goes with me in a backpack wearing the Doggles. We love it.
