Life in America changed after 9/11. It felt like the last vestige of innocents hidden deep in the inner-child died. What little hope that had withstood the assinations of the Kennedys and Martin Luther King was burned clean with the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Fear was rampant in the land. I could see it in people's drawn faces. The media was in a feeding frenzy and the dark side of power began to rise. Emergency security measures were in effect and hastily drawn plans became laws. To show a united front, politicians passed anything the administration put before it.
Now the religious right could further the cause using the tactics of terror through fear and guilt once again. The new McCarthyism was the order of the day. If you weren't with them you were against America. Wars started to avenge failure and consolidate power. Oil.
Osama Bin Ladin and the Weapons of Mass destruction were forgotten. Myths in the desert.
Completing the selling of America though the destruction of the middle class was insidiously simple. Blind faith in the illusions told to the citizens by lying politicians was the final blow. ...


Until a Barack Obama was elected president I felt no hope for the world. Now I feel that some of the idealism that helped my generation stop a war and battled for civil rights. Maybe not idealism, we're much too pragmatic for that now, I think, but real hope. Hope that the light still burns in the lamp of liberty. The torch has been passed to another generation of real patriots. Young and old, we voted together. Using the power of the polls to overthrow the shadow government of the hate and fear mongers.
The election of a person of quality, honor and integrity is the best thing the American people have achieved since civil rights I believe. ...it's still only a step in the right direction. Now comes the hard work and belt tightening we all face in order to save the planet and our own country. If we join the rest of the world in combating pollution, fear, greed, and corruption on all levels we can. Yes We Can !!!
